Who What Wear Lace Blouse: It’s all in the details
I can’t believe that I almost didn’t purchase this lace blouse several months ago while back to school shopping for my teenager. The details on this awesome shirt first caught my eye and but the clearance price made me buy a long-sleeved blouse in the summer. This is my first Who What Wear at Target purchase, not because I don’t think the brand is awesome. But my size is usually gone before items hit the sale or clearance rack. The shopping struggle has been real since moving to a small town with 1 Walmart, 1 Target, and a “mall” with Belks, Sears, and JCPenny. I’ve had to go back to one of my first thrift/clearance shopping rules: If you see something you love, buy it! Because it is very likely that it will not be there when you return. I
Now, let’s talk about the obvious: My Hair
Yes, after 8 years of kinky, curly, zero chemicals or color, 100% natural hair…I got a relaxer. It was a decision that I did not take lightly or make overnight. Relaxing my hair has actually been something that I’ve thought about often and came really close to in the salon quite a few times during my natural hair journey. I have always been that natural who still visits the salon regularly (even though I can do my own hair at home). But after a few not so great salon experiences in my new town, I decided now was probably the time to take the jump and get a relaxer. I mean, what’s the worse that could happen?
I’ve shared my Lupus journey and permanent hair loss journey with my series Crown and Glory (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3). Before any chemical process, I first wanted to make sure that my scalp was healthy. Everyone’s lupus journey is different and my dermatologist assured me (several times) that relaxing wouldn’t affect the internal issues has caused lesions and permanent scarring. But braids, twists, and even the tension from roller sets put stress on my scalp that was uncomfortable and pulled out my already fragile hair. I have never, ever been a wash and go natural so with very little style options and natural stylists in my area, I got a relaxer and a hair cut. And I absolutely love it!
Now, quite a few people have given their opinions (without me asking) about putting chemicals in my hair. Even my own mother, who has colored her natural locs for as long as I can remember, expressed her unhappiness with my new look. But changing my hair and choosing to get a relaxer was about me! I’m good!
